It snowed today, yes as forecast
But there was no prediction.
No commitment…
To a dusting like Castor sugar on a cake,
Or a blizzard white out that will last.

So it snowed…

Last week there was a meteor shower,
Sure the BBC had the news
But no mention here that I heard.
As it turned out it was obscured by mist,
Nothing to be seen as the wonder passed.

The last time the sky was active,
Was the occlusion of Venus by the crescent moon.
No warning in the papers about it,
Just that the space shuttle might be visible.
A grainy B/W photo in the paper like the week past.

So it snowed…

Just enough to make travel dangerous,
Just enough to dampen gloves and boots.
The mutt ran round the yard chasing flakes,
The cat unimpressed behind double glazing,
From her chair a mere noting glance cast.

Everyone knows that a snowflake is unique
But do you know that they grow as they fall?
Unique, unique, how many times changed?
I found this out recently from TV.
A flake to the power of N till it rests at last.

So it snowed…

It snowed and I was cold as I knew I would.
There was no need of prediction.
No commitment…..that’s true.
Just a dusting of Castor sugar, not enough,
To sweeten the white out that will last.

"Cruel and cold is the judgment of man, Cruel as winter, and cold as the snow; But by-and-by will the deed and the plan Be judged by the motive that lieth below."
