in my fragility
i often bereft my very breath of life
of all the wonderment left by dreams--
induce myself
into a tragic, tragic beauty
echoing my heart's sheer deservings

immortal tracings of longing
somehow aurify the crevices left in my soul
by all i have ever known simply
to versify their very essence
to the surface of each willing page

i sense far more in only
the most romantic of poets:
days of yore when the Promethean bard
[Shelly] crossed in his own self
the fine line between heaven and earth,
Keats with his melancholic breathlessness still rests
deeply within my heart;
oh, how they remain my unsurpassed favorites

and so, you see
i am but a humble man whose been bred
completely in the pulsating depth
of poetry

may i pertain to this
forevermore.

Robert Anderson

If we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome".

i have found them, the things that cannot be lost
education, and patience,
my steady face...inside my room,
the mirror that looks at me
always, these eyes

i shall always keep what treasures i found
you, and myself, that time so luckily gives
our lips, our bodies, our mouths
we never exchange them for anything

we found what we deserve: the poetic existence
of these beings.
that stare and droll, these eyes, these hands.

Rick Bastasa

You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.

We all employ them in different ways,
most wisely, to inspire, cheer or praise.
Some try to keep them clean, and some do not.
Depleted of them, we can’t voice a thought.

We use them to make small talk, break the ice,
or offer resolutions, give advice.
We wheedle and beguile with them for gain,
or we may sharpen them, inflicting pain.

Consumed with envy, vengeance or with hate,
we hurl them to deride or to berate.
And it’s the foulest ones that some will seek
to ravage fragile spirits of the meek!

But other times, we ply them to entrance.
We spin a tale with them or make them dance
across a page in lines of poetry
by wielding them to capture imagery.

So whether they be dull or cast a spell,
we learn and grow if we digest them well.
And whether they be heard or signed or read,
it’s by the power of words mankind is led.

I think about
children running
in the yard
their butterfly nets
swinging madly

trying (mostly in vain)
to capture the closest
thing to a pixie
that they'll ever see

they'd like to keep
their prizes forever
beauty captured
life extinguished

perhaps to be displayed
in little glass boxes
with pins anchoring them
in death
as they were never
anchored in life

and that reminds me
of myself
my anxious heart
beating faster
as I stand off to the side
just waiting

for a random word
the sharp right turn
of a phrase---
it's all fair game
for a poet and her net

they become
specimens pinned forever
held captive
by the point of a pen
in my little collection
of treasures...

A cottage ruined but still proud,
High up on this green hill stands,
By the lone pine I seek shade,
Below the same grey scree expands.

I have over filled my heart,
With the lake’s deep blue waters,
To let loose these feelings that ache,
Climbed again on this hill’s shoulders.

I began to scribe my words of love,
Across the page of light blue sky,
Oh! What a vain calligraphy!
In tumbling strokes the letters fly.

With arms thrashing as all lines lost,
Clear water scrawled in air,
Gone now like some invisible ink,
Nothing worthy is left there.

Her future draws her to the east,
There Nature pulls her to its breast,
What chance of a backward look?
When she no longer faces west.

Now sitting on a rough stone,
With cold wind tugging each regret,
I am hoping for one thing alone,
Just one magic eastern sunset.

Fergus Carty

"I trust in nature for the stable laws of beauty and utility. Spring shall plant and autumn garner to the end of time".

Through that enlightened feeling in my mind
Not straying from the brightness I desire
By those who've shed through beauty of a kind
I long to grow by those whom I admire
To be much more than my mere mortal frame
and bid beyond my capability
If I'd conceive my thoughts to share their aim
Then I shall truly have nobility
What can it be to stand in time alone
If I maintain my ways throughout this thought
Much more within my life by righteous tone
I may create that ripple I have sought
But nothing in my soul does indicate
That I am surely meant to be as great

Robert Anderson

She found the crucible
of broken fate
a divine aesthetic
of ribboned notes

From the rubbish
she formed
a musical seascape
a symphony of color
a tapestry of sound

I beseech you
to call my name
in poetry
speak to me in verse
allow me entrance
to the sculpture

The life of a poet
Is as strange as can be
We often live in our heads you see

The words and sentences
Our best friends
Our thoughts and emotions we do send

In every work composed so fine
As people read between the lines
And escape into our vivid minds

Some think poetry is just rhyme
But the words that are written
Stand the test of time

They form the songs that we sing
And the quotes that apply to almost everything
They give our imagination wings

They let the reader see our soul
Through every post
Our emotions are told

The only sad thing
You're usually dead
Before your poetry is truly read
