Everything had been going fine tonight
While dancing he was holding me tight.
You just couldn't sit and leave well enough alone
You hustled over tryin' to get him to take you home
Well, let me tell you sister this little bit of news
He's married to me, and you won't look good sportin' a bruise
You might just want to sit right back down in your chair,
And don't make me come over there.

Don't make me come over there
It'll turn into a space that you won't want to share
I'll show you just how feisty 5 ft 2 can be
You won't be leavin' here except horizontally.
I just can't help it, when my jealousy flairs
So don't make me come over there.

We went down to the beach, a romantic notion
Tanning in the sun, you offered to spread the lotion
But when you should have been watchin' where you were spreadin'
Your eyes were busy scanning out all the other women
You volunteered to go get me an ice cold Bay
But Mr., the bar it's located the other way
I saw you hold your stomach in as you talked to her
Oh! You don't want me to come over there.

Don't make me come over there
It'll turn into a space you don't want to share
I'll have to show you just how feisty 5ft 2 can be
You'll only leave this beach horizontally
Your going to make my hot jealousy flair
Oh, you don't want me to come over there

You called and said don't wait up that you were workin' late
You don't expect me to fall for that, I know you have a date
I know all about her from your own cell phone
She called one night when you left it here at home
Well guess what honey, I've got breaking news for you
This marriage is over, if you follow through
I've forgiven you for the last time, I don't care
But you don't want me to show up there

You don't want me to show up there
I'll turn her place into a space you won't be able to share
I'll show you just how feisty 5ft 2 can be
You'll only be leavin' her place horizontally
I can't help it if she makes my jealousy flair
You don't want me to show up there

Here we are in the Courtroom for our divorce
You're one too many women, caused it of course
You just don't get it do you boy, the truck remains mine
I'm the one who made the payments time after time
You get the house, the boat, the big screen TV
I'll let you keep it all, don't try to take my truck from me
By demanding the truck, well it just isn't fair
ooooo! I'm comin' over there!

I'm a comin' over there
Even if I have to crawl over all these chairs
I'm going to show you just how mad 5ft 2 can be
You'll only leave this Courthouse horizontally
I just can help it when you mess with my truck
Ooooo! I'm a comin' over there

I think about
children running
in the yard
their butterfly nets
swinging madly

trying (mostly in vain)
to capture the closest
thing to a pixie
that they'll ever see

they'd like to keep
their prizes forever
beauty captured
life extinguished

perhaps to be displayed
in little glass boxes
with pins anchoring them
in death
as they were never
anchored in life

and that reminds me
of myself
my anxious heart
beating faster
as I stand off to the side
just waiting

for a random word
the sharp right turn
of a phrase---
it's all fair game
for a poet and her net

they become
specimens pinned forever
held captive
by the point of a pen
in my little collection
of treasures...
