Late Christmas Eve, when all was still,
And the room was dark as night,
The Christmas tree lit magically;
It was a fantastic sight!

Then from around the tree trunk came,
A strange and funny sound,
As gifts began to unwrap themselves,
And toys jumped out all around.

The music box began to play,
And in a crazy trance,
The candy canes jumped off the tree
To do a silly dance.

The big stuffed bear leaped to his feet,
To see what he could see;
He rode a shiny, bright red bike
Around the Christmas tree.

The new toy kitchen started to cook,
And before you could blink an eye,
The oven door opened, and from inside
Came a tiny pizza pie.

A squirt gun squirted everything;
It knew what it was for;
By the time that it was emptied out,
A big puddle lay on the floor.

A beautiful doll with golden hair
Was searching for a friend;
A toy soldier marched up and took her hand;
They were a perfect blend.

In the bedroom were a boy and girl,
Asleep in Christmas dreams;
The soldier saluted; the doll gave a kiss;
At least that's the way it seems.

Now everything began to tire;
The toys went back in place;
But when mother woke in the morning,
You should have seen her face.

The tree was fine; the gifts were there,
Yet mother gave a roar;
She looked at her wet shoes and yelled,
"What's this puddle on my floor?"

the sun slowly rising
creeping upward
ever so slowly
light streaking across
the sky
mingled in with
scattered clouds
bits of pink and orange
playing hide and seek
nature starting its
stretch
morning yawn
still a chill
in the air
muffled sounds
of the waves
rolling to the shores
soft cries of the birds
as they search
for their daily food
circling overhead
the sight of a fish
breaking the water
the quiet movement
of people slowly
making way to join others
in a singular way
along the sands
looking forward
to a new day
looking for change
or continuation
of what has been
bestowed upon them
for some
the search goes on

the sun heavy with
a full day behind it
slowly gathering
downward heading
reaching for the horizon
the expectations
of the day
maybe fullfilled
the darkness creeping
from behind
pushing at the colors
of the soon
night time sky
a quiet time begins
birds flutter about
searching for the nest
energy of the day
all but expelled
fish drift off to sleep
to the depths
they call home
some do gather
chairs for sand
drink in hand
slowly settle in
to watch nature's show
a stillness returns
words not uttered
lost in thought
light turns to dark
the cycle to return
the day wish to continue
or the hope for
a new begining

what is your wish?

In the ultra earth-shine a reflection

Summer’s host rides with the ills of silence,

a hunched weeping muse collects her tears

like the frequent pebbles that span a beach.

In the dead fields of weathered corn

she rests well under dapple skies of canvas,

in prayer she weeps for songs of hope

from the Gods and ghosts that glisten the night.

The evening hoaxer rustles laggardly

in the illusory eye of her sleep,

the wise musings of nomadic wildlife

guardians to the languisher of dreams.

The night carried the idle day away

she could hear the day slowly dwindling

the resurrected whispers of his words

enchanting the woodlands with his return.

early morning rise
stepping outside
gather up the paper
glancing up
at the sky

not a cloud
to cover
the star studded
night
someone had mixed
a bucket of
sparkles and tossed
upward picturesque
against the black
ink of nothingness

like twinkling
christmas lights
some bright
others not
quite beautiful
thousands to see

what did the ancient ones
wonder as they sought
to reach and touch
beyond their grasp

always there
always changing
with the seasons
after all these
years still amazes
the beauty of nature

Calling out
to the sky
no answer
to be had
in return
Just the quiet
as an answer

was it enough
what was done
did it matter
does it
ever
matter

holding back
the oceans
of lost
opportunity
fix
patch
repair
to no avail

rip tides pull
one out to sea
fight the current
swept away
no one knows
a finger
in the water
leaves no mark

was it really
a wonderful life
mr stewart
no wings
no angels
no echo
in the night

fragile
vulnerable
unable
to shake
the doubts
of worth

doubts that
set in
tend to
linger

Daily Quote: The bird let loose in Eastern skies,
Returning fondly home,
Ne'er stoops to earth her wing, nor flies
Where idle warblers roam;
But high she shoots through air and light,
Above all low delay,
Where nothing earthly bounds her flight,
Nor shadow dims her way.

The clever fox will run with the breeze

orange coloured coat and hay coloured eyes,

through the slick streams and tumbling trees

run from the pounding dog pack cry.

The barking fades and the clever fox hides

lurid dogs convey the starry landscape,

streched out in the summer's sunrise

the clever fox's cunning escape.

No blooding for an adolescent

he saved himself and kept his tail,

rolling in cowpat breaking up his scent

sprinting away from those red coats from hell.

As he gazes into her beautiful eyes, he can’t help but feel so alive
She warms his heart thoroughly like a microwave set on high
He tries desperately and repeatedly to tell her just how he feels
On the inside, but his inner emotions block his words like a shield
He wrestles inwardly with himself like a thief whose conscience is guilty
And finally he pieces his emotions together like an old woman quilting
She looks at him, her eyes now full of concern and asks, “Are you all right? ”
He smiles at her confidently and responds “I feel like I just won a fight”

He then eagerly grabs her hands praying that she would understand
An in an almost breathless voice tells her that she has a heart in her hands
She gazes questionably at him and he boldly presses on, eager to explain
That before he met her, life was a cup running over with pain
But now he’s recovering from heart surgery and she is his personal IV
She holds an object in her hands; she can feel the heart beat
She looks at him and asks innocently, “Whose heart could it be?”

He answers clearly, “There’s a heart in your hands and it belongs to me”
He prays she will understand that his heart is in her hands
And that she is the reason he went through a heart transplant
He takes a shuddering breath, kisses her hands and boldly continues
He tells her that his heart beats for her and only her, it’s bulletproof
Like an officer wearing a vest trying to put an angry juvenile under arrest
While he continually shoots, aiming for the heart beating under the vest
She arrests his heart like an arrest that’s cardiac

And every time she leaves his sight he has a heart attack
But now he’s recovering from heart surgery and she is his personal IV
She holds an object in her hands; she can feel the heart beat
She looks at him and asks innocently, “Whose heart could it be?”
He answers clearly, “There’s a heart in your hands and it belongs to me”

Through the sight of daylight

I see a street of whitewashed sand,

cars like broken turrets of ice

melting on a moon clock of dew.

The tilt in my lost breath

wavers in an open canvas of pale stars,

and under the timid river's ice

reflects like imprisoned lanterns of orange.

A dwindled telegraph line hangs

like a frozen thread to a web,

its pale frost illuminating

the misty essence of surface.

Warm sunset is staring

at the oily cloud that peers with motion,

while clearing all the whitened ash

from the deluge of Winter's room.

I

I asked the trees one summer
What they had been thinking of all year.
They wouldn’t say,
But then I heard them wave
And whisper of the ages—
Seasons—
Years, and months, and days—
And countless hours
Of abundant happiness!

II

I like the tales they tell me.
Autumn makes them talk of leaving all,
And yet they stay,
And as they drop their leaves,
They muse for weeks on April—
Thrushes—
Stars and lingering Indian summers—
Rain—
And latent loneliness . . .

III

Their voice is low in winter.
Snow and icy winds are on their minds,
And they withdraw;
But in their winter dreams
You hear how branches sing,
And think of dawn—
The sun in distant countries—
Warmth—
And summer peacefulness.

IV

How grand they are each season—
Often have I seen them stand like kings!
A certain awe
Surrounds their splendid forms,
And so they wait for spring—
For flowers—
Verdant prairies—
Butterflies in May—
And simple loveliness.

V

And then they speak of lovers!
Sudden colors spread their message fast,
And every year
Their many stories bloom,
And nourish noble pages—
Poems—
Gorgeous music—
Heart and mind
With endless youthfulness.

VI

And so we welcome summer . . .
All day long they stand and think and dream,
And all we hear
Is how they wave again
And whisper of the ages—
Seasons—
Years, and months, and days—
And countless hours
Of unending happiness . . .

I love the way your hair
stuck out to one side
when you'd just woke up
it was the cutest bed-head
I'd ever seen

I loved how your hand
enveloped mine
like a small child's
when we'd walk together
side by side

I loved the way just your smile
could make my day
my favorite one
stretched to your ears
and made you look so silly

I loved how your eyes
would change from green to brown
or somewhere in between
and that soft look you would get
saved just for me

I loved the way your voice
enchanted me so completely
I could sit and listen
for hours on end
and never tire of it

I loved how you would laugh
unexpectedly out loud
and wouldn't tell me why
it only made me wonder more
what you were thinking of

I loved the way your arms
held me close yet gentle
how protected and safe I felt
when I was with you
and how loved I knew I once was

I loved everything about you
and all that you were
every strength
and every flaw
I loved it all

I loved you

like the
Flying Dutchman
cast about
the oceans
tortured souls
unable to land
come to port
complete the journey

unrequited
unable to complete
the circle
the journey
to be as one
not to be
as two

thoughts and
emotions
crash the seas
the mantra repeats
can not have
what is not
attainable

what if it is true
the highest mountains
the deepest seas
stand between you
it is not worth the effort
it can not be
no sacrifice too great
but to no avail

Don Quixote
jousted at windmills
laughed at
delusional
he didn't win

like a lovesick boy
in school
heart set
on the prettiest girl
not to be

why do men
do what they do
brain doesn't
get in the way
logic spock
too human
heart gets in the way

doesn't need to
make sense
she reads
thoughts undone
space and time
allows one to
reach out
or brush away

there will be
another
or two or three
sameness
closeness
not to
be there

bruised
and
bewildered
should have
known better
why did I try
doddering old fool

taken as I am
true to thy self
accept or reject
chips
fall as they may
owed nothing
by other
emotional

a cleansing

just friends
not lovers
