I look and look
and look again
and still can't find
beautiful.
You give me a
beginner's paint set
and set me to coloring,
warning me to stay
in the lines or suffer
the consequences.
I slip and get a little
green in your eyes
and a little silver
in your hair.
I am inspired
and color me blue
and the night
dirty yellow.
You just laugh
and touch up
the stars
with turquoise.
