The Great Play
By: V. Mahfood

"Consult not your fears but your hopes and your dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what it is still possible for you to do."

And now the Show is over...
Draw the faded curtains,
Shroud me please at any cost.
I wish only to hide in darkness,
And forget this countless loss.

You brilliant Cassanova...
You led me and I followed,
With joyously open arms.
Your words were sweet songs floating on the breeze,
And I was prey to your devious charms.

You sensuous Serenader...
You were music rippling through me,
The stars guiding me always.
You were the light that banished my fears,
Life was a dream in a rainbow haze.

You marvellous Dream Weaver...
I didn't want this play to end.
I never wanted you to leave.
You were pulled by something beyond us,
Bitter memories make my heart grieve.

A splendid grand Finale...
Can't you hear them applauding wildly?
Magnificent acting on your part.
I was Reality, you were the Dream
Draw the curtains and end the past...

V. Mahfood

With glasses she does not merely see,
She closely observes her world.
With ear-piece she does not just hear,
She intently listens to every word.

Surgery alone did not fix
The hole in her heart,
After two fingers and two lips
Made it once again start.

Braces did not help her walk,
Slowly, rigid and unbending
But four hands and two voices,
In praise of her efforts unending.

Hormone treatment strong
Did not itself her progress make,
Nor physio-therapy long,
Her childhood’s journey make.

Speech therapists
Could not the gift of speech make
But sign at home
Helped her silence to break.

Yet still she prospers,
Through all of the above,
With a Mother’s and Father’s
Unshakable, unending Love.

Fergus Carty

Give me stature
Give me strength
Give me width
And give me length
Give me beauty
Give me health
Give me love
And give me wealth
Give me all that I desire
Give me passion
Give me fire
Give me peace
And give me light
That’s all I guess
Thanks God
Goodnight!

I think of you
as night slowly
seeps away

A silent glimmer
of moon
watches my thoughts

I touch your
troubled heart
with hands of fire

You tremble
our fingers touch
the rest is magic

Phantoms and witches patrolling the skies,
Werewolves howling in the dead of the night,
Imps and demons wander as Satan’s spies,
The horrors fill you to the brim of fright,
This is the day the spirits all return,
This is the time we share in remembrance,
Though the true meaning has taken a turn,
Now its time for fun, candy, and suspense,
The costumes are no longer made for saints,
Trick-or-treating provides marvelous fun,
Children enjoy candy without restraints,
There’s black magic until the night is done,
The magic, horror, and joy fill us all,
A Thriller of a time, Halloween calls.

Pierce Hacking

The quality of mercy
Must be kept alive
Into the darkness
of ignorance must it thrive….

Comprehend a new façade
Upon this regard
we must uphold!
If man is to go forward
He must be bold!

Speak out against
Mistrust injustice
Despair and degrade
The biggest ruin
Of any Age

The quality of mercy
Will unfold
A wealth of understanding
wisdom the light that rids of
Ignorance!
Upon that trust
For which we depend
Great strides forward
Lead all men!

Natasha O'Sullivan

Your love is a hurricane in my heart.
When I’m in your presence my head spins ‘round.
I never want for us to drift apart.
Without you my heart becomes chained and bound.
Around you my chains are broken and I’m free.
I’m lucky to be graced by your beauty.
The sight of you sets a fire within me.
Returning your love is my sworn duty.
I want you to feel the things that I feel.
I want you to have this feeling of peace.
I want you to see how your love can heal,
My heart, and how you give love and release.
These words complete my catharsis of love,
I love you more than the angels above.

Pierce Hacking
